Project Description

Nordic Skiing

Did you know that nordic skiing uses nearly every muscle in your body and burns up to 1,100 calories per hour, which is more than any other sport?  Nordic skiing was originally used for transportation and became popular for recreation in the 1800’s. Alpine skiing evolved from nordic skiing. To learn more about nordic skiing read this: https://blog.skis.com/top-12-things-know-nordic-skiing/.  Nordic skiing is a fun alternative to alpine skiing and can be done several ways and in several places in the Vail area.

The main nordic skiing place in Vail is The Vail Nordic Center, located at The Vail Golf Course. Vail Nordic Center is a full service facility offering trails, a track, equipment rentals and sales, nordic clothing and gear, nordic lessons and even snow shoe and fat tire bike rentals. You will find all the information you need here: http://vailclubhouse.com/nordic-center.

Vail Resorts offers cross country lessons and tours as well as telemark and back country workshops through their Nordic School. For more information on what they offer look here: https://www.vail.com/explore-the-resort/activities-and-events/winter-activities/nordic-school.aspx.

Beaver Creek also has a nordic center which is called McCoy Park. McCoy Park offers almost 20 miles of trails and is a full service center with rentals, sales and lessons as well. For everything you need to know about McCoy Park please go to: https://www.beavercreek.com/plan-your-trip/ski-and-ride-lessons/category/nordic-center.aspx.

Of course, if you are a seasoned nordic skier already with skills and your own equipment, there are many trails you can explore on your own in the Vail area. Ask the Sandstone Creek Club concierge or front desk for ideas where to go and happy nordic trails to you!
